On new walls and additions, we hang full sheets wherever possible to cut down the number of joints, stagger the seams, keep butt joints away from door and window corners where cracks like to start, and set screws just below the paper without tearing it. Bathrooms and laundry areas get moisture-resistant board, and tiled shower walls get cement backer instead of drywall. Because we also do the framing, we check that studs are straight before the first sheet goes up, which saves a lot of mud later.

Finishing is where drywall is won or lost. Joints are taped and coated, corners get metal or paper bead, and each coat of compound is feathered wider than the one before, then sanded smooth. We look at the walls with a work light from the side, the way low sunlight from a window will hit them, so ridges get fixed before primer. The result is a surface our painting crew, or yours, can finish without flashing or visible seams.

Repairs are a big part of what we do: holes from doorknobs and moved fixtures, cracks over doorways, nail pops, and sections that have to be cut out after a leak. Water-damaged board is replaced, not just painted over, once the source is fixed. Drywall ceilings are hung with the help of lifts so sheets stay tight to the joists, and sagging or stained ceiling panels can be replaced and blended into the rest of the room.

In remodels and additions, new sheetrock has to meet old walls without a visible line. That means matching the thickness of the existing board, feathering the joint well past the seam, and reproducing the wall or ceiling texture already in the house, whether it is smooth, orange peel or knockdown. Once primed and painted, the new section should read as part of the original room.
We also keep the mess under control. Sanding dust travels, so we seal off doorways with plastic, cover floors and vents, and clean up at the end of each workday rather than only when the job is done.
